Fabio Gea DNAss 2024
Fabio GeaGrape: Nebbiolo
Vintage: 2024
Type: Red
Sourced from a tiny plot of nebbiolo in Bricco di Neive, this red wine highlights a sandy marl terroir. The name DNAss spells sand backward, referencing sandy soils that limit vine yields and build aromatic lift. Fabio Gea utilizes a low-intervention approach, featuring spontaneous skin maceration driven by native wild yeasts. Aged in custom porcelain and stoneware vessels submerged in water to prevent oxidation, this zero-zero bottling establishes a unique identity.
It glows a translucent, bright ruby red with magenta highlights, releasing an intensely lifted nose of wild cranberry, raspberry, and dried flowers. A sleek, medium-bodied frame pairs crunchy red fruits with a signature trail of savory herbs. A crystalline streak of energetic acidity drives through the texture, maintaining freshness across the mid-palate. While firm, fine-grained tannins are present, underwater porcelain aging rounds out the mouthfeel cleanly. It concludes bone-dry with a lasting mineral impression.
Fabio Gea:
Fabio is a young winemaker making delicious, distinctive wines from tiny parcels around the Bricco in Barbaresco. He makes 18 different wines with a total production of around 5,000 bottles.
He has a few rows of vines from his grandfather’s property and rents a few more. Within the family’s property, there is Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Barbera, and Grignolino, which amount to less than one hectare.
A geologist turned winemaker, the handmade labels, bottles, and aging are uniquely Fabio Gea. We find these wines fascinating, one of our great joys is having such distinctive wines. Organic (not certified)
